Odisha Government Approves 4433 Nursing Officer Vacancy for 2025: Everything You Need to Know

If you are a nursing student in Odisha, I have some massive news for you.

You might have seen screenshots circulating on WhatsApp or heard rumors about a “big vacancy” coming soon. Well, I did the research, and I am here to tell you: It is 100% true.

The Odisha Government has officially approved the recruitment of 4,433 Nursing Officers.

This is not just a rumor. The Health Minister, Shri Mukesh Mahaling, has confirmed it, and the Finance Department has given the green signal. This means the money for your salaries has already been set aside!

But before you get too excited, you need to understand what this job actually is, because it is slightly different from the regular hospital staff nurse jobs.

Here is everything I know so far in simple words.

1. What is the Job exactly?

The government is calling these posts “Nursing Officers,” but they will be called as Community Health Officer (CHO).

  • Where will you work? You won’t be in a big District Headquarter Hospital (DHH). Instead, you will be posted at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Health Sub-Centres) in rural areas.
  • What will you do? You will be the “Doctor Didi” or “Doctor Bhaina” of that village. You will handle basic treatments, checkups for pregnant women, and manage the health of that community.

2. Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

The official notification (advertisement) hasn’t come out yet, but looking at previous OSSSC rules, here is what you can expect:

  • Qualification:
    • B.Sc Nursing: 100% Eligible.
    • GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery): Yes, GNM candidates are eligible for Nursing Officer posts in Odisha.
    • Registration: You must have a valid registration with the Odisha Nursing Council (ONC). If your renewal is pending, do it NOW.
  • Age Limit:
    • Usually 21 to 38 Years.
    • There will be age relaxation (5 years) for SC/ST/SEBC and Women candidates.

3. How Much is the Salary?

This is the best part. Since you will be working as a Community Health Officer (CHO), your salary structure is usually same as staff nurse/Nursing Officer.

  • Basic Pay: You will likely be under the regular Nursing Officer pay scale (Scale of Pay Level-9).
  • Incentives: CHOs usually get a “Performance Based Incentive” (PBI) on top of their salary.
  • Total Estimate: You can expect to take home anywhere between ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 per month depending on your posting area and incentives.

4. When Will the Form Come Out?

Since the Finance Department approved it in mid-November 2025, the file typically moves to the recruitment body (OSSSC) next.

  • My Prediction: We can expect the official advertisement in January 2026.
  • Exam Date: Probably around April or May 2026.

5. What Should You Do Right Now?

Please, do not wait for the notification to release. 4,433 posts is a huge number, but there are over 50,000 nursing students in Odisha waiting for this. The competition will be tough.

This is a golden opportunity. In Odisha, vacancies like this (4000+ posts) come once in 5 years. If you crack this, your life is set—government job, good salary, and respect in society.

I will update this blog the moment the official link comes out.
