OSSSC Nursing Officer Recruitment 2026: Corrigendum Issued — Last Date Extended & Tie-Breaking Rules Revised

Important Update for OSSSC Nursing Officer 2026 Applicants

The Odisha Sub-ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) has issued a Corrigendum (No. IIE-54/2026/224/OSSSC, dated 6th July 2026) revising its earlier Advertisement No. 1962/OSSSC dated 12th June 2026 for the recruitment of Nursing Officer-2026. If you’ve already applied — or are planning to apply — for this recruitment, here are the three important changes you need to know about.

What Has Changed in This Corrigendum?

1. Tie-Breaking Criteria in the Written Test — Revised

Earlier, the advertisement stated that in case of a tie in the Written Test score, the candidate with fewer wrong attempts would be ranked higher. This “Lesser Wrong Attempts” rule has now been removed.

In its place, OSSSC has introduced a clear, step-by-step tie-breaking sequence. If two or more candidates score exactly the same marks in the Written Test, ranking will now be decided in this order:

  1. Professional Qualification Marks: The candidate with a higher percentage of marks in their Diploma in GNM (General Nursing & Midwifery) or B.Sc. Nursing will be ranked higher.
  2. Age Seniority: If the professional qualification percentage is also identical, the older candidate will be ranked above the younger one.
  3. Higher Secondary (+2) Marks: If candidates share the exact same date of birth too, the one with higher marks in +2 (any stream) or an equivalent examination will be ranked higher.
  4. Commission’s Discretion: If the tie still isn’t resolved after all the above steps, OSSSC reserves the absolute right to apply any other criteria of its choosing to break the tie.

Why this matters: This is a more transparent and predictable system than the earlier “fewer wrong attempts” rule, since it now clearly prioritizes your professional nursing qualification marks first — so candidates with strong GNM/B.Sc. Nursing scores have a clearer advantage in tie situations.

2. New Disability Sub-Category Added — Visually Impaired (VI)

Under the “Functional Classification (Categories of disabled persons suitable for the job)” section of Annexure-I, OSSSC has added a new category that was missing earlier.

Previously, only two broad categories were listed:

  • HI – Hearing Impaired
  • OI – Orthopedically Impaired

As per the corrigendum, the classification has been revised to include a new category and reordered as follows:

I) VI – Visually Impaired (newly added)

  • Visually impaired but able to function with an assistive device

II) HI – Hearing Impaired

  • Hearing impaired (with suitable aid)
  • Hard of hearing (with suitable aid)

III) OI – Orthopedically Impaired

  • DW – Dwarfism
  • AAV – Acid Attack Victims (arms not affected)
  • LD – Locomotor Disability:
    • OL (MNR) – One leg affected but not arms (mobility not restricted)
    • OL – One leg affected (right or left)

IV) MD – Multiple Disabilities

  • Any combination of disabilities from categories I, II & III above

Why this matters: If you are a candidate with a visual disability and were unsure whether you were eligible under the earlier notification, this corrigendum now explicitly includes and defines the Visually Impaired (VI) category as suitable for the Nursing Officer post — subject to functioning with an assistive device.

3. Application Dates Extended

OSSSC has also extended the timeline for registration and application submission:

EventStart DateRevised End Date
Online Registration / Re-registration13 June 202620 July 2026
Submission of Online Application13 June 202627 July 2026

This gives candidates extra time to complete their registration and final submission if they haven’t already done so.

What Remains Unchanged?

OSSSC has clearly stated that all other terms and conditions of the original advertisement (No. 1962/OSSSC dated 12.06.2026) remain unaltered. This means eligibility criteria, vacancy details, pay scale, and the rest of the selection process (other than the tie-breaking rule above) stay the same as originally notified.

What Should Applicants Do Now?

  • If you’ve already registered or applied, no action is needed regarding the tie-break or disability classification changes — these apply automatically as per the revised rules.
  • If you haven’t applied yet, you now have until 27 July 2026 to submit your online application, and until 20 July 2026 for registration/re-registration.
  • Candidates applying under the Visually Impaired (VI) category should review the updated Annexure-I classification carefully to confirm their eligibility.
  • Keep checking the official OSSSC website regularly, as the Commission has advised, for any further updates.
